Origins

Singer-Songwriter, Guitarist, International Soul Traveler, Yoga Instructor, Natural Beauty Advocate…. Are just a few adjectives that describe Koku Gonza. She wears many artistic hats, however music is her first love.  She’s appeared at Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy, Sunset On The Hudson in New York , The Rock in Zanzibar, Tanzania , Comptuoir du Jazz in France and  Apollo Theater WOW Music Festival in New York. She’s an independent musician creating her own organic universe inspired by beauty from her Tanzanian roots. Catch her live playing her favorite Traveler Guitar.  

 

Koku Gonza is often compared to the sultry international vibes of Sade, Patrice Rushen, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Miriam Makeba, she has released 5 independent music projects.  As well as three successful charting Afro House music tracks which highlight her songwriting skills.  Her house music singles include ; Conveniently Rolling (Circlular Motion Records), Penda Curious (Nulu Records)and Ninataka (ClairAudience).

 

Her current single titled Zanzibar, is inspired by the essence of Zanzibar, Tanzania.  Zanzibar features Kora Master Yacouba Sissoko,  Guitarist- Marcus Machado and a Swahili poem by a local Tanzanian artist, Justa Lujwangana. Her upcoming release, Kryptonite, also highlights beautiful Swahili language in the chorus of the song...” Don’t Say Usiku Mwemwa, Nina Kupenda Sana” ….
